It seemed like a simple plan: sneak in, destroy robots, defeat a tyrant, save the world. But, just because a plan is simple, doesn't mean it's easy...and it certainly doesn't mean success.

You play as Klyne Rennaul in an attempt to correct the mistakes made that led to his girlfriend, Anna Mei, being captured as they tried to make their escape. With few resources and no assistance, he treks back to the ruined city, Lazarin, to save who he can and stop who he must, or die trying.

You are not without the ability to defend yourself. Despite his failings, he was still a practitioner of the Vision Arts, and with that he gives you the ability to input commands in battle that may enable you to perform devastating special Arts attacks to eviscerate out your foes. Be warned, however: the loss took its toll on him and you'll find his anger bubbling to the surface often, which when coupled with his martial arts abilities may lead to desperate if not reckless attacks outside of your control.

This game started as a port of the game "MtSQuest - True" aka "Marc the Superkid Quest - True" for the TI-83+ Graphing Calculator. If you played the original, hopefully this will harken back to those days of yesteryear while at the same time providing a new experience with revised dialog as well as quality of life changes to enhance the play experience.

Game completed with the "Success" ending! Yep, this game's just as good now as it was back then. Now to do it all over again and see if I've missed anything - despite knowing all of the Normal Arts, purchasing all of the Hyper Arts, and mastering all of the Super Arts... there's still one more attack that I remember from my TI-83 days. What I don't remember is how to unlock it... but discovery is half the fun!

Thank you for creating Marc the Superkid Quest in the first place, thank you for creating this amazing remaster, and thank you for being one of the best experiences I've had in TI-83 gaming - both back then and now!

Woot! Yup, there are 3 other endings that you can get. To give a hint, there are 2 distinct choices in the game, and now it's a matter of how you choose for both.

I'm guessing you're thinking of the one that summoned a monster that shot fire or spikes or whatever? I believe the training hall midway in the game had something to do with that. If that's not the one you're thinking of, the only thing that comes to mind is maybe you're thinking a special attack in the final cutscene? Hard for me t o say, I'm afraid.

And, you are very welcome! Thank you so much for enjoying my game. You've no idea how much I appreciate it!

I'm not sure if you'll read this comment, but I'd recently fallen back into a TI-83+ rabbithole. Finding old games that I used to play a lot during my off time in school, Marc the Superkid Quest - True ended up crossing my radar once again. I loved playing that game back then, and learning that you've essentially made a "remastered" version has absolutely made my day. Even if I'm the only person who will ever comment here, that's fine - I just want to make my appreciation known, and to thank you for pouring your time and effort into this game. This will be a free-time killer for me for quite a while yet, I think.

...although I have had the issue where if I die somewhere, I'll end up seeing a 'ghost me' on the overworld when I get back to where I died. Trying to pass through this ghost crashes the game. It's not a dealbreaker; I just have to remember to fully quit out every time I die to unload the ghost.

Thank you for your comments! It makes me glad to know something I made was enjoyed so much!

Also, thank you for the bug report! I was able to reproduce the bug and that should now be fixed. You'll just need to download the new version, but you shouldn't have to restart your game or anything.

If you don't mind me asking, would you be able to share your various stats when you died? What player level, which room/area of the game, what difficulty setting, that sort of thing.  I just want to make sure the difficulty isn't too far off, and that would be very helpful.

Thank you again for playing my game!

Hey, thanks for the quick response! I'd only recently gotten out of the Hyper-Sim Training Room and was heading out of the starting area. I died near the Save Crystal that's below the house where you learn... Sonic Javelin, I think it was?

I was playing on Easy to ease myself into the game, and it's honestly just as I remember it - you even kept the Arts inputs exactly the same so far! This has been a huge nostalgia trip for me, and I have a feeling it's only going to get better from here.

(P.S. Did you also include the 'one-button' stuff? You know, like scanning enemies and such? If you didn't, that's fine - I just remember randomly stumbling across it during my first playthrough of MTSQ and was curious if you kept it in or not.)

Okay, I think I know where you're at then. All of the arts attacks have the same inputs, but you still have to buy the hyper arts. At the very least, you don't need to play the game a bunch of times to "open up paths" just to get the final abilities, lol.

I'm glad to hear it's hitting all the right buttons for you too! I tried keeping it as close as I could, though I did have to take advantage of newer technologies, such as with the menus. If you're familiar with the Super Arts training hut from the original, that's been repurposed as well with some neat features. The story has been touched up a bit, and there are actual multiple endings rather than just continuing on with the one like the original, so have fun finding them!

And, no, I didn't include those hidden inputs. I thought about it, but I wanted to keep the control scheme as simple/generic as possible. Originally I was thinking I'd add controller support if it was requested, but as you can see you're the first person in 4 years that's commented so this project hasn't seen much updates, lol.

Makes sense. Actually, is there a better way to get in touch with you, like Discord or anything? Seems like a bit of a hassle to have a full conversation within Itch's comment section - especially because I've run into a rather... unique problem regarding the Super Arts training. (If you do have Discord, my handle is the same there as it is here.)

Also, not including the hidden inputs is perfectly fine! I didn't think absolutely everything from the original MTSQ would be brought over. Still, glad to hear that even if virtually nobody else remembers this hidden gem, I at least do.
